On June 7, 1973, the Texas Rangers select heralded high school pitcher David Clyde with the first pick of the amateur draft. Clyde will turn out to be a bust, but two future members of the 3,000-hit club – Robin Yount and Dave Winfield – are taken with the third and fourth picks.
