On August 28, 1951 — The Braves sell P Johnny Sain to the Yankees for $50,000 and a young pitcher named Lew Burdette. It is another late-season insurance measure for the New Yorkers. Sain will help New York win pennants from 1951-1954, while Burdette will go on to win 179 games with the Braves over 13 seasons. In the 1957 World Series, Burdette will haunt his former team, beating the Yankees three times as the Braves claim the championship.
