The Brooklyn Dodgers name Branch Rickey team president

 

 

On November 1, 1942 — The Brooklyn Dodgers name Branch Rickey team president, replacing Larry MacPhail who enters the Army. Rickey had resigned as vice-president of the Cardinals only three days earlier.

Rickey will remain with the Dodgers through 1950 but is widely remembered for his signing of Jackie Robinson who broke the color barrier in 1947 and his development of the farm systems.
