On September 2, 2006 — The Mariners complete a unique triple play when Adrian Beltre is tagged out (2) trying to steal second after a third strike is called (1) on Raul Ibanez, and Jose Lopez is nailed at home plate (3) trying to score from third base on the play for the third out in the first inning of the team’s 4-3 victory over the Devil Rays at Tropicana Field. The 2-6-2 triple killing marks the first time a triple play has been accomplished without the bat touching a ball.
