On August 6, 1999 — The Padres defeat the Expos, 12 – 10, as San Diego OF Tony Gwynn records the 3000th hit of his big league career. Gwynn goes 4 for 5 to lead the Padres to victory. Quilvio Veras ties a Pads record by scoring four runs.
The Orioles outslug the Rangers, 16 – 5, pounding out 24 hits in the process. All nine Baltimore starters have two or more hits, with Mike Bordick leading the way with four. Albert Belle hits a pair of homers and knocks home five runs.

2008 – Back from the All-Star break, the Brewers get a complete game win from C.C. Sabathia – just as they did in their last game before the break. Sabathia becomes the first hurler since Wilbur Wood in 1975 to get complete game wins in consecutive games without his team playing a contest in between. Wood accomplished the feat under similar circumstances.

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2 – 1, in 12 innings, as manager Tony La Russa wins his 823rd game with the Cardinals, passing Whitey Herzog for second place on the franchise list. La Russa is 218 victories behind Cardinals leader Red Schoendienst.
