The Texas Rangers make the winning bid for star Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish

Yo DarvishOn December 19, 2011 — The Texas Rangers make the winning bid for star Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish. As expected, the $51.7 million offer is the largest ever made through the posting system, breaking the record of $51.1 million which the Red Sox offered for Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006.

Darvish, the 25 year-old right-hander Japanese pitching ace of the Nippon Ham Fighters. Texas now has thirty days to sign the two-time MVP, who posted a 93-38 record along with a 1.99 earned run average during his seven seasons in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball Pacific League.
