On September 16, 1998 — Tom Gordon ties Jose Mesa’s major league single-season record established in 1995 with his 38th consecutive save. The 30 year-old right-handed closer also sets a franchise mark with his 41st save of the season when the Red Sox beat Baltimore, 4-3.
