On May 1, 1965 — Tommy Davis, trying to break up a double play, dislocates and breaks his ankle sliding into second base in the fourth inning of the team’s 4-2 victory over the Giants at Dodger Stadium. The two-time National League batting champ will not play again this year until he appears as a pinch-hitter in the season finale.

Davis the two-time batting champ will play 11 more seasons but he will never regain the power he had shown earlier in his career.
