Washington Senators hire future Hall of Famer Bucky Harris as manager

 

 

On November 13, 1934, the Washington Senators hire future Hall of Famer Bucky Harris as manager. Harris replaces player-manager Joe Cronin, whom Washington had sold to Boston. The ‘Boy Wonder,’ previously managed the Senators to American League championships in 1924 and 1925 and the franchises only World Series victory as the Senators in 1924.

His second time through will not be as successful from 1935 – 1942, the club will finish above 500 once for a 4th place finish. He will return again in 1950 – 1954 and have 1 season above .500. Overal over 18 seasons he will go 1336 – 1416 for a .485 winning percentage and win 1 world series with the Senators. He will also win a title with the Yankees.

During his 29 year managerial career he will manage 4,410 games and win 2,158 of them. All three World Series he managed in went 7 games.
