On September 11, 1928 — Yankee shortstop Mark Koenig’s routine catch of A’s pinch hitter Ty Cobb’s pop fly behind third base will mark the last time the ‘Georgia Peach’ swings a bat in the big leagues. The aging 41 year-old, who is the all-time hits leader, will announce his retirement six days later, ending a 24 year Hall of Fame career.
