1897 – PitcherĀ Charley RadbournĀ dies inĀ Bloomington, Illinois, at age of 42. In an 11-season career, Radbourn played for theĀ Providence Grays,Ā Boston Beaneaters,Ā Boston RedsĀ andĀ Cincinnati Reds, compiling a 309-195 record with 1830Ā strikeoutsĀ and a 2.67Ā ERA. He posted at least 20Ā winsĀ in nine seasons, including 59 inĀ 1884Ā and 48 a year before. Affectionately nicknamed ā€œOld Hossā€, Radburn will be inducted into theĀ Hall of FameĀ inĀ 1939.
