Big Train is topped in the nightcap when Washington hurler Carl Cashion tosses a 6-inning no-hitter, winning, 2 – 0. The only baserunners reach on two errors by SS George McBride. 1922 – Lizzie Murphy of the Providence all-stars plays 1B for an American League all-star team in an exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox, making her the first female to play for a major-league team. Other all-stars are Chick Shorten, Tilly Walker, Frank Bruggy, Bootnose Hofmann, Jim Bagby, Nick Altrock and Donie Bush. The all-stars win, 3 – 2, when Doc Johnston triples home Pep Young in the 10th. The proceeds benefit the family of former Sox player and manager Tommy McCarthy. The future Hall of Famer passed away August 5th.

The Dodgers sweep a pair of 10-inning games from St. Louis, with Clyde King picking up both come-from-behind victories. King goes three innings in game one and one inning in game two. Jackie Robinson is 5 for 6 in the nitecap including a 2-out single in the 10th off Al Brazle. Andy Pafko has a homer in the nitecap, while Stan Musial hits his 29th in the first game. Carl Furillo has three hits on the afternoon and a pair of assists in game 1, bringing his season total to 21. The Dodgers have now won 14 straight from the Cards.
