On September 14, 1920 — 1920 – The Yankees increase their American League lead to 1 1/2 games by topping the Tigers 13 – 3. Cleveland and the White Sox are both shut out, the A’s beating the Indians 8 – 0 and Washington whitewashing the Sox 7 – 0. The Sox are now 2 1/2 games back.
