1933 – Cleveland’s Wes Ferrell stops Heinie Manush’s hitting streak at 33 games, as Washington loses, 5 – 4 in 11 innings.

Bill Veeck suggests the idea of a mid-summer series of interleague games and proposes a split-season schedule format. Although the Cub president’s concept of games between the two circuits receives some support, Senator owner Clark Griffith opposes the proposal, calling the American League a major league not in need of grandiose schemes he deemed as “Hippodrome stuff”.

The front-running Senators are stopped after 13 straight wins when Detroit rookie Hank Greenberg homers in the ninth.

1933 – Powered by Turkey Stearnes’ 41st home run, the Chicago American Giants (Negro Leagues) defeat the Nashville Elite Giants in a twin bill for their 28th consecutive victory.
