1935 – The New York Giants purchase veteran pitcher Dick Coffman from the St. Louis Browns. Coffman, who was on the outs with Rogers Hornsby, will go 24-14 over the next four years for New York.
On November 9, 1935, future Hall of Famer Bob Gibson is born in Omaha, Nebraska. Gibson will make his major league debut in 1959, marking the start of a 17-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Gibson will win election to the Hall of Fame in 1981.

1935 – Pitcher Sam Jones finishes his major league career after 21 successive American League seasons. Jones posted a 229-217 record with 1223 strikeouts and a 3.84 ERA in 3883.0 innings, pitching for the Indians, Red Sox, Yankees, Browns, Senators and White Sox.
NFL standout Cal Hubbard becomes an American League umpire. The former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle will become the only person to be enshrined at both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame.
