In a benefit game played at the Polo Grounds, “Schoolboy” Johnny Taylor, pitching for a chosen All-Star Negro National League team, no-hits Satchel Paige and his “Dominican All-Stars”, 2 – 0. Paige’s team had won the Denver Post Tournament and had taken the Dominican League title earlier in the year.
Tigers’ first baseman Hank Greenberg becomes the first player to hit a homer into the center field bleachers at Yankee Stadium. The area will become known as ‘the black’ when seats are covered in the dark color to serve as a batting eye.
Pittsburgh OF Paul Waner establishes a 20th-century National League record with his 8th year of 200 or more hits.
Martin Dihigo raps six hits (four singles, a double and a home run) in a Mexican League game, the first player to do so.
1937 – Cleveland’s Johnny Allen wins his 12th straight without a loss, equaling Tom Zachary’s 1929 record of 12-0.
1937 – Future Hall of Fame member Martin Dihigo pitches the first professional no-hit, no-run game on Mexican soil, a 4 – 0 victory against Nogales at Veracruz. In 1938, Dihigo will lead the Mexican League in four categories: ERA (0.90), wins (18-2), strikeouts (184), and batting (.387).
1937 – American League President Will Harridge upholds Cleveland’s protest of the August 6 Yankee win, and the entire game is replayed as the second game of a doubleheader. The protested game is called a tie with all stats retained except those following the disputed call.

A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly win it for Curt Davis‚ breaking the Cubs’ 5-game losing streak.
