Michael Lorenzen homers in a third consecutive at-bat, having done so on June 24h as a pinch-hitter and again on June 29th, this time in his normal role as a relief pitcher. The third one is the most spectacular, however, as it comes against Jacob Barnes of the Brewers with the bases loaded in the 7th inning, again as a pinch-hitter. His grand slam is key to the Reds’ 12 – 3 win.

The Pirates take a two games to one lead in the NLDS with a 5 – 3 win over St. Louis at home. Pedro Alvarez drives in the go-ahead run in the 8th after Carlos Beltran twice ties the score for the Cards, with a two-run single in the 5th, and a solo homer off Mark Melancon in the top of the 8th. The homer is the 16th in postseason play for Beltran, and he now only trails Mickey Mantle, with 18, in that category.

2010 – For the first time, New Yankee Stadium is host to a football game, the first Pinstripe Bowl pitting Syracuse University and Kansas State University. It renews with an old tradition, as Yankee Stadium was a regular venue for college football games before its renovation in the 1970s. Syracuse defeats Kansas State 36-34 in a closely-fought game.
