The Story Quarry site is selected as the site for the new Milwaukee County Stadium

On January 11, 1949 — Although the Milwaukee doesn’t have a major league franchise; the selection for the site for the city’s new County Stadium is the Story Stone Quarry, chosen over the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds because of its closer proximity to downtown. Construction will begin in October 19, of next year in an attempt to attract a big league team, which will happen in 1953 when the Braves leave Boston to play in Brew Town.
