The Cubs overcome making five errors in the top of the third inning and beat the Mets, 4-2. The Chicago miscues, that include shortstop Andre Rodgers and catcher Dick Bertell each committing two and first baseman Ernie Banks contributing to the total by dropping a pop fly, account for all of New York’s scoring in the Wrigley Field contest.

1964 – Nellie Fox singles home Eddie Kasko with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to end a wild 5-4 victory over the Giants at Colt Stadium. Tempers are hot as the Texas heat with players and managers from both teams getting run by umpire Lee Weyer. San Francisco’s Billy O’Dell is thumbed as he makes warm-up tosses after arriving from the bullpen. An angry Gaylord Perry grabs Fox’s bat when it’s all over and smashes it to pieces before handing it to the batboy.
Vic Power of the Angels is fined $250 and suspended 10 days for spitting on umpire Jim Honochick after a close play during a doubleheader loss to the White Sox, 7 – 4 and 6 – 1, the previous day.
On July 10, 1964, Jesus Alou of the San Francisco Giants collects six hits against six different pitchers in a 10-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Alou becomes the first Giant to enjoy a six-hit game in nearly 40 years.
