Bill Giles, the Dome’s scoreboard operator, splashes the words ā€œKIBLER DID IT AGAINā€ on the big board. This led to an apology to the umpires and to Warren Giles, Bill’s father and president of the league. Pitcher Ron Herbel of the Giants also gets the first hit of his career after going oh-for-55 in the 8-1 San Francisco decision. Herbel retired with an .029 batting average in nine seasons.
