Bill Miller of the Pasadena Star-News reports: “Claude Osteen was working on a one-hitter until two were out in the 7th. The second out was Davis’ big contribution. ‘Davis made at least three outstanding catches, but that ball he pulled down in the 7th inning was the big one,’ said Walter Alston. He referred to a 400-foot drive off the bat of Roberto Clemente which sent Davis back to the wall.” Clemente takes another tack with Davis his next time up, with similar results: “Davis robbed Clemente again in the 9th with a sparkling catch. This time he took the ball off his shoetops.”
