On September 12, 1976 — 1976 – DH Minnie Minoso singles for the White Sox against the Angels’ Sid Monge. Said to be 53, Minoso is considered the oldest player ever to collect a hit in the major leagues, although he is, in reality, three years younger than his listed age, as will later be discovered. Minoso goes 1-3 in the 10 innings 2-1 Chicago win at Comiskey Park. Both starters pitched complete games, Monge and future hall of farmer Rich Gossage went 10 innings to pick up the win.
Gossage will make 3 more starts in 1976 and never start another game in his career. Minoso will play another game in 1980 at age 54.
