Los Angeles Dodgers catch lightning in a bottle and score 3 in 9th to beat Philadelphia in NLCS

On October 7, 1977 — Down 5 – 3 to the Philadelphia Phillies at Veterans Stadium with two outs in the 9th inning in Game 3 of the NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers catch lightning in a bottle. Pinch-hitter Vic Davalillo beats out a two-strike drag bunt and Manny Mota follows with a pinch-hit long double. With Mota on third Dave Lopes hits a smash to Mike Schmidt that caroms off him right to Larry Bowa and Lopes beats out the throw (Check out the replay) and Mota scores.  The game appeared to be over when LA’s Davey Lopes is picked off first base for the final out, but a throwing error by Gene Garber advances him to second base, from where he will score the decisive run on Bill Russell’s single.

Los Angeles pulls out an incredible 6 – 5 victory.
