1994 – Houston signs first baseman Sid Bream. As a backup to Jeff Bagwell, he contributes mostly as a pinch-hitter, delivering a .344 average in the strike-shortened season. Of course, Bagwell hit .368 in an MVP year so Bream got scant attention for his superb play. After the strike, he never appears again in the majors.
1994 – Major league owners amend the major league agreement, giving complete power to the Commissioner on labor negotiations. Bud Selig will continue to act as interim commissioner.
1994 – Major league owners approve a new revenue-sharing plan keyed to a salary cap, which requires the players’ approval. They will reject it, causing a strike.
During their winter fan festival, the Brewers unveil a new logo and different team colors, with navy, green, and metallic gold replacing the current royal blue and yellow. The changes, the first since the start of the 1978 season, also include Germanic lettering in place of the standard block, and the addition of the first alternate uniform in the club’s history, a navy jersey with the club’s primary logo below the word Brewers across the chest.

Orlando Cepeda falls seven votes short of the 75% required for election….
