On February 3, 1999 — The New York Mets tell a surprised Tim McCarver that after 16 years he will not be returning to the team’s broadcast booth. The franchise’s pitching legend Tom Seaver, who was in the television booth for the Yankees from 1989 to 1993, will replace the highly regarded, but outspoken 57 year-old broadcaster who will assume other duties within the organization.
