Derek Jeter and the Yankees finalize a $189 million, 10-year contract

On February 9 2001 — After 13 months of negotiations, Derek Jeter and the Yankees finalize a $189 million, 10-year contract. The deal makes the All-Star shortstop second only to Alex Rodriguez ($252 million/10 years) as highest-paid player in the history of the sport.

Jeter will have 2 near MVP seasons and collect over 1800 hits, appear in 8 all stars game and win 5 Gold Gloves. Jeter will miss becoming the second unanimous HOF inductee by 1 vote in 2020.
