The ensuing discussions between home plate umpire Angel Hernandez and Red Sox manager Alex Cora last 20 minutes, and not receiving satisfaction, Cora plays the remainder of the game under protest. The Rays hang on to their 3 – 2 lead until the end of the game. The Red Sox will drop their protest, realizing they have no chance to win as there was no clear rule violation.
