October 15, 2008 – At Dodger Stadium in Game 5 of the NLCS, the visiting Phillies beat the Dodgers, 5-1, to win their first pennant since 1993. Southpaw Cole Hamels, the series MVP, wins his second game of the series and overall pitches his third postseason gem, and Jimmy Rollins starts the Philadelphia attack with a leadoff home run to start the game.

1937 – Future Hall of Fame member Martin Dihigo pitches the first professional no-hit, no-run game on Mexican soil, a 4 – 0 victory against Nogales at Veracruz. In 1938, Dihigo will lead the Mexican League in four categories: ERA (0.90), wins (18-2), strikeouts (184), and batting (.387).

September 16, 1937

The Giants take two from Cincinnati, winning 4 – 3 in 12 innings, and 4 – 1. Christy Mathewson wins both, relieving Joe McGinnity in the 9th inning of the opener and tossing nine innings in the nitecap; Andy Coakley loses both. New York moves into 2nd place, five percentage points behind the Pirates. Despite the two losses, it is a relief for the Reds to score runs. Cincy had endured four straight shutout losses: 5 – 0 on July 30; 3 – 0 on the 31st; 6 – 0 on the 1st and 3rd.
