2008 – The Philadelphia Phillies defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5 – 1, in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series to clinch the National League pennant. Cole Hamels wins his second game of the series and is named NLCS Most Valuable Player.

October 15, 2008 – At Dodger Stadium in Game 5 of the NLCS, the visiting Phillies beat the Dodgers, 5-1, to win their first pennant since 1993. Southpaw Cole Hamels, the series MVP, wins his second game of the series and overall pitches his third postseason gem, and Jimmy Rollins starts the Philadelphia attack with a leadoff home run to start the game.
