Standing at first base after an error by Tony Abreu, he goes past second base on a long drive by Rafael Furcal. Thinking CF Chris Young made the catch, he retreats to first base, only to be passed by Furcal, who correctly saw that Young dropped the ball and is running all out. Furcal is out for passing a preceding runner, losing credit for a potential triple.

Hinch, who piloted the team to an 89-123 record in a little more than a full season in the dugout. In addition to letting go their manager, the last-place team also fires general manager Josh Byrnes.
