The Phillies trade veteran 1B Jim Thome to the Orioles for minor leaguers Kyle Simon and Gabriel Lino. The 41-year-old is hitting .242 with 5 home runs in 30 games, but had to miss a month with a bad back; in Baltimore, he will be used as a DH and won’t need to worry about having to play the field.
