Joining him in winning entry to the Salón de la Fama are Cornelio García, one of the top contact hitters in LMB history, 1960s-1970s pitchers Juan Suby and Alfredo Mariscal and umpire Jesús Monter.

Jeff Samardzija wins for the first time since Opening Day and hits a two-run homer off Jon Garland in the 2nd in leading the Cubs to a 6 – 3 victory over the Rockies.

Zack Greinke makes a successful return to the mound after breaking his collarbone in a scuffle on April 11th. He gives up only one run in 5 1/3 innings and drives in a run himself as the Dodgers defeat the Nationals, 3 – 1.

Tampa Bay’s Matt Moore gives up three 1st-inning runs, but nothing else over the next five innings, to become the first American League pitcher to seven wins, earning a 5 – 3 victory over the Red Sox. He is the first pitcher in Rays history to start a season 7-0.

Carlos Gonzalez has five hits, including a pair of homers, in leading the Rockies to a 9 – 4 win over the Cubs. Troy Tulowitzki pitches in with two doubles among his three hits and Eric Young homers as part of a 17-hit attack. Jeff Francis is the winner over Carlos Villanueva.

Justin Upton, playing In his first game at Chase Field since the January trade that sent him to Atlanta in a seven-player deal, collects four hits, including a home run and a double. The first overall pick by Arizona in the 2005 amateur draft receives a mixed reaction from the crowd, with slightly more cheers than boos during Atlanta’s 10-1 rout of the Diamondbacks.

In his return to Arizona after his off-season trade, Justin Upton has a huge night, banging out four hits including a homer in a 10 – 1 Braves win over the Diamondbacks.

Jordan Zimmermann is the first major league pitcher to seven wins as he also drives in three runs in Washington’s 6 – 2 victory over the Dodgers. His opponent, Josh Beckett, falls to 0-5. For Washington, Bryce Harper runs at full speed into the outfield fence in the 5th inning as he attempts to catch a fly ball hit by A.J. Ellis; he has to leave the game and while he will return to action quickly, the nagging injuries resulting from the collision will affect his production significantly for the rest of the season.

Dè Flanegin sets a new Hoofdklasse record for games played all for a single team. He passes Jurjan Koenen with his 692nd game for the Pioniers, but his club loses 3 – 1 to The Hawks behind a pitching gem from fellow veteran Elton Koeiman.

Chris Sale of the White Sox throws the third major league one-hitter in three days in beating the Angels­, 3 – 0. Sale takes a perfect game into the 7th before Mike Trout singles with one out; he needs only 98 pitches to record his first career shutout.
