Martin Maldonado ends a 17-inning marathon with a solo walk-off homer off Vidal Nuno to give the Brewers a 7 – 6 win over the Diamondbacks. Maldonado goes 4-for-6 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs while catching all 17 innings. Matt Garza throws five scoreless innings in his first relief appearance since 2010 to earn the win. At 5 hours and 49 minutes, it is the longest game by time in the history of Miller Park.

The Dodgers snap a 42-inning scoreless road streak in beating the Cardinals, 5 -1. They are held hitless for five innings by Michael Wacha to beat an unenviable club record dating back to 1908, until a run-scoring single by Howie Kendrick in the 6th puts the team on the board a three-run homer by Yasmani Grandal gives them the lead. It is Wacha’s first loss after opening the year with seven straight wins.

Cubs pitcher Jon Lester sets a new record for most hitless at bats from the start of a career by going 0 for 2 in a game against the Nationals. Coming into the game, he had been tied with Joey Hamilton with 57 fruitless at-bats.

The Dodgers and Braves complete a six-player trade, with 3B Juan Uribe and P Chris Withrow headed to Atlanta in return for IF Alberto Callaspo and Ps Eric Stults, Ian Thomas and Juan Jaime. Callaspo originally blocked the trade, as is his right as a player who was signed as a free agent before the season, but changes his mind after thinking about it for a day.

Josh Donaldson has a great night at the plate as he reaches base in all five of his plate appearances, with four hits and a walk, scores 5 runs and drives in 4. His first hit is a 1st-inning solo homer off John Danks and his last one a walk-off three-run shot off closer David Robertson, giving the Blue Jays a 10 – 9 win over the White Sox.

On the day they retire Bernie Williams’ number 51 and unveil a plaque in his honor in Monument Park, the Yankees suffer their 10th loss in 11 games to fall to .500. The Rangers’ 5 – 2 win completes a three-game sweep, as a two-run homer by Adam Rosales off Chris Capuano, and two RBIs by Prince Fielder, account for the bulk of the damage.

Brian Matusz becomes the second pitcher this week to be ejected for having a foreign substance on him, after Will Smith. The Orioles’ lefty is tossed in the 12th inning of what is then a scoreless game against the Marlins. Miami scores on a bases-loaded single by Martin Prado in the bottom of the 13th for Dan Jennings’ first win as a manager, 1 – 0. Like Smith, Matusz will receive an eight-game suspension for his action.

In a meeting of the two teams sporting the best records in the majors, Kansas City defeats St. Louis, 5 – 0, in the first game of an interleague series. Kendry Morales homers twice and drives in all five runs to bring his RBI total for the season to 37, most in the American League. Chris Young improves to 4-0.

The Brewers’ Will Smith is ejected for having rosin and sunscreen on his forearm in the 7th inning of Milwaukee’s 10 – 1 loss to the Braves. Smith explains that he simply forgot to wipe off his arm before leaving the bullpen when called into the game. He will receive an eight-game suspension as well. The Braves are only up 2 – 1 when Smith gets thrown out, but the Braves tee up against his successors, Neal Cotts and Michael Blazek, to run away with the game.
