2016 – To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the California League announces the California League Hall of Fame. The initial class is composed primarily of Hall of Fame players who appeared in the league, but does include some players who did star in the Cal League such as league hit record holder Vada Pinson, 2001 league MVP Xavier Nady and league co-founder Sam Lynn.

The Marlins edge the Mets‚ 5 – 4. Armando Benitez gets the save in relief. It is his 10th save of the year against New York for a new Major League record for saves against a club in a year. He will add one more save to give him 11 against his former teammates.

The Rockies acquire veteran 2B Mark Ellis from Oakland in return for P Bruce Billings and a player to be named later. Ellis became expendable with the promotion of rookie Jemile Weeks a few weeks ago.
