In his 16th career start, Marlins left-hander Adam Conley is four outs away from a no-hitter when he is replaced by reliever Jose Urena, who gives up the Brewers’ first hit with one out in the ninth in the team’s 6-3 victory at Milwaukee’s Miller Park. Miami manager Don Mattingly made the decision to go to the bullpen after the 25 year-old southpaw needed 16 pitches to get the first two outs of the eighth inning, bringing his total pitch count 116, ten more than the southpaw’s previous career high.

The Mets score a team record 12 runs in the 3rd inning in defeating the Giants, 13 – 1. Yoenis Cespedes collects 6 RBIs in the frame with a two-run single off Jake Peavy and a grand slam off Mike Broadway. Steven Matz is the winner.

2016 – Marlins 2B Dee Gordon, the defending National League batting champion, is suspended for 80 games for testing positive for PEDs. He is the third major leaguer to be handed such a suspension since the start of the season, following Chris Colabello and Daniel Stumpf.

Trevor Story of the Rockies sets a new National League rookie mark with his 9th homer of April, breaking the record of 8 set by Albert Pujols in 2001; he is still one shy of the major league mark of 10, set by Jose Abreu in 2014. Colorado loses the game, though, 9 – 8 to the Pirates in 12 innings. Story will tie Abreu’s mark with another long ball on April 29th.

Andrew McCutchen has the second three-homer game of his career to lead the Pirates to a 9 – 4 win over the Rockies. He’s only the fourth player in Bucs history with a pair of three-homer games; the others are Hall of Famers Ralph Kiner, Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell.

Chicago is on top of the baseball world today as the White Sox are the first major league team to 15 wins this year when they beat the Blue Jays, 10 – 1, behind Chris Sale’s fifth win in as many starts. They are then joined by the Cubs who improve to 15-5 with a 4 – 3 win over the Brewers. For the Cubs, it’s their best start since 1907, when they had begun the season by going 16-4 on their way to a World Series win.

Takahiro Arai joins the meikyukai with his 2,000th career hit, a double off Yoshihisa Naruse. Arai is the 47th player to 2,000 hits and is the second-lowest draft pick to do so; as a 6th-round pick, only Yutaka Fukumoto (7th round) was lower. It is part of a remarkable year as the 39-year-old will win the MVP for the first time.

2016 – Chris Heisey ends a 16-inning marathon by belting a walk-off homer off Michael Tonkin that gives the Nationals a 6 – 5 win over the Twins. At 5 hours and 56 minutes, it is the longest regular season game in Nats history. It goes into extra innings after Bryce Harper hits the first pinch homer of his career off closer Kevin Jepsen to tie it at 4 in the 9th. Washington is down by a run again in the 15th when Danny Espinosa draws a two-out walk and steals second; out of pinch-hitters, manager Dusty Baker lets P Oliver Perez bat for himself and he lays down a bunt down the third base line. C John Ryan Murphy picks it up and throws wildly to first base, allowing Espinosa to score and prolonging the game. The Twins strike out 20 times during the game.

Chris Colabello of the Blue Jays is suspended for 80 games for using a banned PED. Colabello came out of the independent leagues to become a big contributor in Toronto’s division title in 2015.
