Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, who goes 3-for-4 in the team’s 3-2 victory over the Rays at Tropicana Field, becomes the first American Leaguer to have multiple extra-base hits in the first three games of the season. In 2015, Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez also accomplished the feat, collecting at least two hits in each of LA’s first three contests when he compiled ten hits his first 14 at-bats of the season.

2018 – For the second straight day, the Giants defeat the Dodgers, 1 – 0, thanks to a solo homer by 2B Joe Panik. After pulling the trick against ace Clayton Kershaw on Opening Day yesterday, Panik connects off closer Kenley Jansen in the 9th inning, after starter Alex Wood had limited the Giants to one hit over the first eight frames. The Dodgers manage just one hit off three Giants pitchers, but will get their revenge over the next two days, defeating the Giants by a combined score of 14-0.

Justin Verlander tossed six shutout innings for the victory. Before the game, a moment of silence was held in memory of former Astros All-Star Rusty Staub who passed away that morning at the age of 73.

He ends an exhibition game against the Cardinals by hitting a walk-off homer off Jack Flaherty with two outs in the 9th, breaking a scoreless tie, much to the delight of the 25,800 spectators present.
