The American Association is founded in Cincinnati, OH with the motto “Liberty to All.”

On November 2, 1881 – The American Association is founded in Cincinnati, OH with the motto “Liberty to All.” The members are the Brooklyn Atlantics, Cincinnati Red Stockings, Louisville Colonels, Philadelphia Athletics, Pittsburgh Alleghenys and St. Louis Brown Stockings. The Brooklyn team will be replaced by the Baltimore Orioles before the start of the first season in 1882. This AA will be considered a major league.

After having made every European Championship since 1962 (the longest run of any country), Sweden is on the verge of missing out on the 2016 European Championship. They trail Israel 5-4 going into the 9th, having gotten moderate offense against Dean Kremer. Against Israel’s bullpen, though, they score five times in the 9th. Israel strikes back against a tiring Jakob Claesson (going the distance with 145 pitches) for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th and puts the tying run in scoring position but Nate Fish grounds out to end the game. Sweden will then rally in the 9th again tomorrow against host Austria to win the Vienna round of the 2015 B-Level European Championship and retain a spot in the Euros. Veteran Björn Johannessen is named the MVP of the qualifier.

Jose Fernandez has the worst start of his career for the Marlins, giving up a lead-off homer to Nick Markakis of the Braves on his way to a four-run 1st inning, and leaves after allowing 6 runs in 5 innings, but his teammates pick him up, and he ends up a 12 – 11 winner. He is now 17-0 at home for his career, breaking the record for most consecutive wins at home at the start of a career that was shared by Johnny Allen and LaMarr Hoyt.
