A Brief History of the Chicago Cubs-White Sox Rivalry

Field, their home game field, being positioned in the North of the city. The Cubs have one of the most

The White Sox 

The White Sox were founded in 1900 under the name White Stockings. Four years later, they shortened
it to the much more iconic White Sox, the name which they still have today. The team went down in
history in 1906 when they defeated their rivals, the Chicago Cubs, after the Cubs’ record-setting, 116-win
streak. The victory went down in history, as the White Sox employed a defensive tactic, and became
known as “the hitless wonders”.

Since then, the two teams have had a long-standing, century-spanning rivalry, which is still going strong
today. The White Sox have experienced an eighty-seven-year-long drought in the MLB Championship,
the second-longest drought in history, behind their rivals, the Cubs.

The White Sox’s all-time season record is 9.411-9.309, with a .503 win percentage.

The Rivalry Today
While historically, the Cubs have had better numbers, in 2021, to the chagrin of the North Siders, the
White Sox have proven the better team, with a lead of 70-64. As of 2021, the White Sox also have a
larger number of World Series victories, having four wins, while the Cubs have only won two.
