On December 18 , 1981 — Outfielder Cesar Cedeno is traded to Cincinnati for infielder Ray Knight. It ends a 12-year run in Houston for Cedeno who bats .289 as an Astro with 163 HRs, 778 RBIs, 487 steals and four All-Star appearances.
Knight a second generation player will go on to have 3 solid seasons in Houston including an All Star appearance. He will then be traded to the Mets in 1984 and is best known for scoring the winning run in game 6 of the 1986 World Series. I can still hear Vin Scully say here comes Knight, and the Mets win!
Cendeno played well for the Reds, hitting ,265 and was a super pick up for the 1985 Cardinal’s hitting .434 over the final month of the season and nearly were it not for a blown call win a World Series Ring.
