Rehabbing a hip injury in the minor leagues, veteran third baseman Mike Lowell has a tremendous game for the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League, banging 3 homers and driving in 5 runs in a 10 – 6 win over the Toledo Mud Hens. He has been out of action in the major leagues since June 22nd.

2001 – Orlando Merced cracks a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to tie the Mets then Moises Alou finishes the job in the tenth with an infield hit that scores Craig Biggio for a 4-3 triumph. Mike Williams, newly acquired from Pittsburgh, takes the win in relief.
