On February 6, 2012 â An arbitration panel rules in favor of 27 year-old Anibal Sanchez (8-9, 3.67), awarding the Marlin right-hander with a record-breaking $8 million salary for this season. The decision, which puts aside the teamâs counteroffer of $6.9 million, represents the largest amount ever given to a starting pitcher who went to arbitration.
This may have spurred the July 23, 2012: Trade by the Miami Marlins, he was traded with Omar Infante to the Detroit Tigers for Rob Brantly, Brian Flynn and Jacob Turner. Sanchez will have his best season a year later, posting a 2.57 ERA, won 14 games and posted a war of 6.5 and came in 4th in the Cy Young voting, leading the Tigers to the ALCS loss to the Boston Red Sox.
