OnĀ April 20 ,Ā 1995 ā€“Ā  TheĀ Pittsburgh PiratesĀ releaseĀ Tim Wakefield, who posted an 8-1 record inĀ 1993Ā and was named theĀ National LeagueĀ rookie pitcher of the year. TheĀ knuckleballerĀ started theĀ 1994Ā opener, but spent most of the season with theĀ Buffalo BisonsĀ of theĀ International League, going 5-15, and was shelled in his only start this spring. Wakefield will be picked up by theĀ Boston Red SoxĀ and will revive his career there.
