On March 30 , 1993 — Astros release pitcher Jason Grimsley, whom they acquired for pitcher Curt Schilling the previous year. Grimsley catches on with the Cleveland Indians. He did not pitch an inning while in Houston. Schilling, meanwhile, becomes a six-time All-Star who is a pivotal member of four pennant-winners.

Johnny Rizzo becomes the first Pirates player in franchise history to hit 20 home runs in a season. The 25 year-old rookie outfielder from Texas, who becomes hurt next season, never playing regularly for the Bucs again, finishes the campaign batting .301 with 23 round-trippers and 111 RBIs.

September 16, 1938

The Angels’ Dan Haren joins teammate Jered Weaver as the major leagues’ only four-game winners with a 4 – 2 victory over the White Sox. Weaver recorded win number 4 the previous day in the Halos’ three-game sweep of the Pale Hose. Haren’s ERA is now 1.16.
