The “bellyache heard round the world,” so dubbed when a writer suggests that a hot dog and soda binge caused the illness, The Bambino collapses in the railroad station in Asheville, NC, and winds up in a New York City hospital. Ruth will undergo an operation for an ulcer on April 17th and will be in bed until May 26th.
