1915 – Pittsburgh rookie Carmen Hill makes his mound debut with a 5 – 0 win over the Giants.

1915 – The Cubs edge the Braves, 1 – 0, behind Phil Douglas, with Lefty Tyler taking the tough loss. Tomorrow, the Cubs will win another 1 – 0 battle, but it will take them 12 innings to do it.

Babe Ruth fires a two-hitter, as the Red Sox beat the White Sox, 2 – 1, for their 7th win in a row. Ruth has two of Boston’s three hits. Boston will win four of five in the series with Chicago.

George Dumont debuts with Washington and fires a 3 – 0 shutout over Cleveland. Dumont will finish the year at 2-1, with both wins shutouts.

1915 – The Kansas City Packers of the Federal League are the first major league team to play a game against inmates inside a prison as they visit the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, KS. They win handily, 23 – 1, as they play all of their regulars in the game.

Boston’s Babe Ruth wins his 15th of the year, stopping the visiting A’s, 7 – 2, on six hits. Ruth, 3rd in the American League in hitting, is 0 for 4 at the plate.

St. Louis (Federal League) pitcher Dave Davenport follows up his no-hitter of three days ago with a 2-hitter, beating Newark, 3 – 0.

Boston’s Lefty Tyler allows just one Brooklyn hit, but loses, 1 – 0. Jeff Pfeffer is nearly as perfect, allowing two hits for the win. Brooklyn scores the lone run on a walk by Hy Myers, Gus Getz’s single, a double steal, and a sac fly.
