1915 – The St. Louis Terriers’ Dave Davenport, strikeout leader of the Federal League, pitches a 3 – 0 no-hitter over the Whales, one of his 10 shutouts and 22 wins. St. Louis will play two more games than Chicago and split them, thus trailing the Whales at season’s end by one percentage point. Chicago will be 86-66; St. Louis, 87-67, and the Pittsburgh Rebels, 86-67. A percentage difference of .004, it is the closest bunching of the top three teams in any major league race.

The visiting Phillies sweep two from the Giants, winning, 3 – 1 and 2 – 0. Jeff Tesreau and Christy Mathewson take the losses, while Grover Alexander is the shutout winner in the nitecap.
In the first game of a doubleheader at the Polo Grounds, Cubs’ right-hander Jimmy Lavender no-hits the hometown Giants, 2-0. Next season, the 31 year-old knuckleballer will stymie New York once again, tossing a one-hitter, allowing only an infield safety to Benny Kauff.
Art Nehf and Tom Hughes are both 2 – 0 winners as the Braves sweep two from the Reds.
