Patrick Corbin spins a gem for the Diamondbacks as he shuts out the Giants, 1 – 0, on a one-hitter. He keeps the Giants hitless until two are out in the 8th when Brandon Belt hits a squibbler to third base to defeat a defensive shift. The game is still scoreless at that point, but in the bottom of the inning, Arizona scores the only run it needs on a walk by Jarrod Dyson, a sacrifice bunt by Corbin and a single by David Peralta. It is Corbin’s first career shutout.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first ever game in Oakland, CA, the A’s stage a game featuring free admission to anyone registering in advance. The birthday party is a huge success as over 46,000 spectators show up at the Coliseum to see Oakland defeat the White Sox, 10 – 2.

Puerto Rican native Francisco Lindor hits an emotional two-run home run to lead the Indians to a 6 – 1 win over the Twins in the first game of a two-game series played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The series is particularly important given the devastation wreaked on the island by Hurricane Maria last September.

Cold, wind, snow and sleet continue to wreak havoc with the major league schedule, as three more postponements today bring the total to 24 since the start of the season. Boston’sannual Patriots Day late-morning game is a victim of the elements today, and even the Blue Jays, in spite of playing in a dome, have to re-schedule a game because falling ice from the nearby CN Tower damages the roof at the Rogers Centre, potentially endangering fans.

Bartolo Colon, the oldest pitcher in the majors at 44, shows the kids how it’s done in a nationally televized Sunday night game pitting the Rangers against the Astros. Colon tosses 7 perfect innings against the defending World Champions before allowing a walk to Carlos Correa to lead off the bottom of the 8th, followed by a double by Josh Reddick. Correa scores on a sacrifice fly by Yuli Gurriel and Colon leaves after 7 2/3 innings. His opponent on the mound, Justin Verlander, is no slouch either as he gives up just one hit – a solo homer by Robinson Chirinos – in eight innings. The Rangers win the game, 3 – 1, with 2 runs in the 10th, both scoring on a double by Chirinos.

Jameson Taillon of the Pirates pitches a one-hitter in defeating the Reds, 5 – 0. The only hit he allows is a single by his opponent, Tyler Mahle, in the 3rd.

The legend of Shohei Ohtani will not stop growing. Today, in his second pitching start for the Angels, he retires the first 19 batters he faces before allowing a single to Marcus Semienof the Athletics with one out in the 7th. He leaves after 7 scoreless innings, having struck out 12 batters, and is credited with the 6 – 1 win, his second in as many starts.
