1992 – Pittsburgh rookie P Tim Wakefield defeats Tom Candiotti of the Dodgers, 2 – 0, in the first matchup of knuckleballers in the National League since 1982. Candiotti gives up nine hits in six innings, while Wakefield (4-1) allows six hits in nine frames.

After posting a 12-14 record during the longest scheduled road trip in big league history, the Astros return to Houston to play a home game. The twenty-six game journey to eight cities is made necessary because of the Republican National Convention being held at the Astrodome.

The Expos score 5 runs – 3 earned – off Tom Glavine in 4 2/3 inning and win 6 – 0, stopping Glavine’s win streak at 13 games. Chris Nabholz, who lost his last outing to Glavine, goes 7 1/3 inning for the win. Glavine will start another winning streak of 13 games – all against the Expos – and will not lose again to Montreal until June 27, 2000.

In a Class A Florida State League game, Andy Carter of the Clearwater Phillies defeats Scott Bakkum of the Winter Haven Red Sox, 1 – 0. Neither team gets a hit in what is believed to be the first double no-hitter in the minors in 40 years.

In his last outing as a Met, David Cone (13-7) gives up four runs in seven innings in losing to the Padres, 4 – 3. Cone gives up just three hits. Mets Bobby Bonilla homers in his fourth consecutive game, tying the club mark.

In the seventh inning of a Class A Florida State League contest, the Clearwater Phillies string together two walks and two sac bunts to score the game’s only run, beating the Winter Haven Red Sox, 1-0. Opposing minor league hurlers Andy Carter and Scott Bakkum do not give up any hits, making it the first professional game to be hitless in 40 years.

1992 – Blue Jays P David Wells allows 13 runs, all earned, in 4 1/3 innings in Toronto’s 16 – 3 loss to Milwaukee.

Mariners 2B Bret Boone makes his major league debut against the Orioles. By doing so, he becomes the first third-generation player in the major leagues, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Ray, and his father Bob. Boone goes 1 for 4 and drives in a run in Seattle’s 10 – 8 victory.

When Bret Boone takes the field at Camden Yards against Baltimore, the Mariner second baseman becomes part of the first three-generation family to ever play in the major leagues. The 23 year-old Seattle rookie is the grandson of Ray Boone (1948-60) and son of Bob Boone (1972-90).
