B.J. Upton hits three home runs to back the pitching of James Shields as Tampa Bay shuts out Texas, 6 – 0. With the Yankees beating the Orioles, 13 – 3, the standings in the AL East have New York one game in front of Baltimore, and two ahead of Tampa Bay.

On September 9, 2012 — At Tropicana Field – B.J. Upton hits three home runs to back the pitching of James Shields, the Rays right-hander tosses a complete-game two-hitter, beating the first-place Rangers, 6-0. Upton’s homeruns come in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.

With the Yankees beating the Orioles, 13 – 3, the standings in the AL East have New York one game in front of Baltimore, and two ahead of Tampa Bay.
