On December 4, 1968, the Baltimore Orioles make a quietly brilliant trade, sending outfielder-catcher Curt Blefary and a minor leaguer to the Houston Astros for pitcher Mike Cuellar and two minor leaguers. Cuellar, despite a 37-36 record with Houston and an All-Star appearance, Cuellar’s best days are ahead of him, will average 20 wins a year for five years in Baltimore. This ranks as one of the best trades in Oriole history, along with the one which brought in Frank Robinson.
