Frank Tanana leads the Angels to win first American League West title

On September 25, 1979 — Anaheim Stadium, Behind the solid pitching of Frank Tanana, the Angels defeat the Royals, 4-1, to win their first American League West title. Tanana wins his 7th game of the year giving up just 5 hits and striking out 4 in the complete-game effort. Brian Downing singled in a run and scored a run in the 3 run third inning, and singled in the 4th and final run for the Angels in the 5th. Downing, Rick Miller and Rod Carew all had 3 hits for the Angels.
